What is the Walcheren village tour?

Every year on the first Tuesday of August from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.!

The Walcheren Village Tour is a cycle tour for young and old. The tour has been organised for more than 25 years and takes place every year on the first Tuesday of August. The proceeds from the cycle tour go to Terre des Hommes, an organisation dedicated to children's rights. Together, we are working to end the exploitation of children in developing countries.

 

The cycle tour covers a total distance of 55 to 60 km and winds through picturesque villages, past swaying cornfields to the city centre of Middelburg. Participants will pass a stamp post every five kilometres. These may be located at a mini campsite, a windmill, a theatre or a farm. At the stamp posts, there will be activities and local products on offer. Choose one of the eleven stamp posts to start the cycle tour.

On Tuesday, 4 August 2026, you can also purchase participation booklets at all stamp posts from 9 a.m. onwards.

1. Explanation

Every participant in the Walcheren Village Tour must be in possession of a participation booklet. The participation booklet is your "proof of participation" and contains the complete route. 

New this year is that you can purchase the participation booklet online. You pay online using your own bank's app, and we will send you a code that you can use to pick up your paid participation booklet at one of the 11 stamp posts on Tuesday, 5 August.

Cyclists under the age of 16 can participate for free!

2. How does it work exactly?

On Tuesday 5 August :

  • Make sure you have your phone with you with the email we sent you after you registered on this website. You can also print the email.
  • Choose one of the eleven stamp posts as your starting location.
  • Show your phone or printout there and you will receive the paid participation booklets.
  • At the stamp post, you will receive your first stamp and you can set off.
